We are committed to the community around us. Our Community Mission Deacons serve as liaisons to local agencies, keeping us informed of their missions and needs, and involved with their programs and activities. These agencies feed the hungry, provide clothing and shelter to the homeless, abused and others in need. The emphasis is not just on emergency assistance, but on empowering people long term. We care about people of all ages and walks in life, support recovery programs and help those in prison. A number of our members serve on the boards of these organizations.

We review our mission commitments on a regular basis to make sure we are serving in ways that truly allow us to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Agencies we currently support include:

Our Environmental Stewardship Committee encourages us to show our love for God’s earth by promoting ways we can protect the environment. These include the following:

  • Adopt-a-Highway street clean-up
  • Recycling programs
  • Advocating for the environment with community partners
  • Educating the church family and beyond
  • Encouraging use of reusable cups, bottles and bags
  • Coordinating Earth Day activities

Mission outreach includes support for camps through our adult Mission Possible program that helps church camps maintain and upgrade their facilities.

Amateur Preachers fill the pulpits of smaller Presbyterian Churches throughout Central Illinois when the regular pastors are on vacation or involved in continuing education.

At First Pres we understand the need to assist others by providing meeting space for the following groups to gather at our church:

  • DREAAM
  • Young Lives
  • AA
  • GROW
  • Epilepsy Support
