A Weekday Emailer from

To Members and Friends of
First Presbyterian Church
Champaign, Illinois

Dear Friends,

Our Wednesday Night Zooms are an opportunity for fellowship, chuckles, prayer, and learning. Tonight, our Spiritual Formation Teams leads a discussion about a Rachel Held Evans talk. She says that some of the biggest mountains are those of our own making that we put in God’s way of getting to people. In this video she comments on the roles of women in churches and how God participates in times of suffering.  Join us? Here’s the Zoom link:
Email zoom@firstpres.church for the link.

Humor

Bill Gamble reminds of that Will Rogers said,  “An onion can make people cry, but there has never been a vegetable invented to make people laugh.”

Good Word:

(More from) Psalm 22

 1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
    Why are you so far from helping me, from the words of my groaning?
O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer;
    and by night, but find no rest.
Yet you are holy,
    enthroned on the praises of Israel.
In you our ancestors trusted;
    they trusted, and you delivered them.
To you they cried, and were saved;
    in you they trusted, and were not put to shame.

Let us pray

Just for today,
what does it matter,
O Lord,
if the future is dark?
To pray now for tomorrow
I am not able.
Keep my heart
only for today,
grant me your light—
just for today.
Amen.
[Teresa of Lisieux (1873–1897)]

Much love to you all.

PEACE,

Matt Matthews
